Come receive lessons learned from the project teams that have tackled Mecklenburg County’s most challenging urban creek renewals. This workshop is split into a morning and afternoon session to provide a high-level understanding and hands-on awareness of the efforts Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has taken to clean their stormwater and connect residents to nature.

Morning presentations from the County’s Stormwater Director and various Program Managers will provide an overview of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services.  Additional presentations from project staff and partners will share experiences working across the County and descriptions of the urban challenges confronting their work. These project teams regularly work in highly urbanized environments and balance numerous project objectives including reducing flooding, providing public access, revitalizing downtown development, improving ecology, and enhancing the natural beauty of the County’s heavily impacted streams.

After a catered lunch, workshop attendees will tour three completed projects to hear how these projects addressed and overcame challenges such as acquiring easements, permitting, and other project constraints. Representatives from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and the project design team will be on site to share information about the planning, design, and construction of these projects. Participants should expect to walk up to 1 mile at each stop.

We hope you will join us for this close-up look at urban water management!
